BUSINESS IN
ACTION
U.S.
CEOs come out strong on global warming
Business
Roundtable, a powerful association of CEOs of
leading U.S. companies with combined annual revenues of $4.5
trillion and employing more than 10 million people, recently
released a Climate
Change Statement in support of actions—including policy
solutions—to reduce global warming pollution.
Policy
objectives include public reporting by U.S. companies on
emission reductions; improvements in energy efficiency; investment
in research, development, and demonstration of low-emission
technologies; and selection by policymakers of the right policy
tools, which might include carbon taxes, cap-and-trade
programs, or emissions standards.
Roundtable co-chairman
Edward B. Rust Jr., chairman and CEO of State Farm, said in a recent
news
release, "As
the largest insurer of homes in the U. S., State Farm is very concerned
about natural and man-made causes of property damage." |

WHAT
YOU CAN DO
Make the call to fight global warming
By the
end of this month, the U.S. House of Representatives is likely
to vote on two pieces of legislation that would make great
strides in fighting global warming:
The
Markey-Platts Fuel Economy Bill (HR 1506)—this
bill would increase gas mileage standards, saving consumers
money by making their cars go further on a gallon of gas while
significantly reducing global warming pollution and our dependence
on foreign oil.
The Platts-Udall
Renewable Energy Standard (HR 969)—this measure would set a
national Renewable Energy Standard, requiring utilities to produce
20 percent of their electricity from clean, renewable sources by
2020.
Be sure to thank
your Representative If he or she is a co-sponsor of these bills.
Contact your
U.S. House member today by phone and urge them
to support these bills. Find
