Support Clean Energy - Buy Green Power
Today
Your investment in green power will support the development of new
wind turbines in Minnesota, such as this turbine on farmland in
Pipestone County that supplies electricity to Xcel Energy's
WindSource progam.
Minnesota law (§216B.169)
requires that utilities offer green power to their customers.
Interested consumers will make an additional payment for each
"block" of renewable energy they wish to purchase. While this
represents one step in the transition to a cleaner energy system,
alone, it is not enough.
Renewable energy will not become a major component of a utility's
power mix through these voluntary efforts alone; what Minnesota
needs is a renewable electricity standard to ensure that the
electric mix becomes cleaner over time and all ratepayers share in
the cost. You can help Minnesota achieve that goal by asking your
political leaders to pass legislation that requires an
increase in Minnesota's renewable energy for all the state's
utilities.
